Hello friends ,neighbors, and fellow crazy people.
I am pleased to be a part of this network. I hope to get to know even more of you than I already do . By the nature of what we do many of us are solitary animals. {our heads just need to be into our art} So, we do need a social group.

I can't remember not being an artist, but I have never been to art school. I am self taught . I think of myself as a folk artist. I do paint and draw , but not much in the last few years.
I call my work "Sharons' Songs" they are ballads, The stories of my life and the things that I like to celibrate,
I do like to celibrate the unsung heros ,especially the mothers and grandmothers that made life civilized and comfortable for us all. The people that kept us clean, fed ,and well. The main sponsors of all holidays.
The mundane of today will be the futures courosity,as the mundane of yesterday is todays.
This somewhat explanes my subject matter.
Luck to all.

Glad you are still showing. A couple artist have given up and I am about there. I upload to internet contests--even won third place at a U.K. Gallery online but that's about it. I did hang at Gary's Wavelength and almost sold a piece. At the last minute her husband found out that she was buying art and was most upset. To top it off the paint peeled from tha walls when I removed the exhibit. I bought brand new hanging adhesive for that display just to be sure. My older ones were not open but were old so I went to Deaton's for new. I was so embarrased. Gary said he was painting the walls anyway which I knew but still. I have never had that happen. Maybe it's an omen.

Congrats on hanging a show! Glad you are still participating.

Sharon

Yes, life is good--at least I try to look specifically at the good. Hope all is well with you, also.

Hey Sharon
I really like the work you showcase in your photos.
I would suggest you read my blog post on getting the most out of your membership to the Artists of Yellow Springs Ning.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Oh, I've seen your work and think it's fantastic! so cool to put a name and a presence here with what you do. And I agree---about the mothers and grandmothers, and about artists being solitary creatures. nice to "meet" you here!

A little story for you.

Jane was small for her age, but had proved herself responsible. Already, at the young age of eight, she was skilled in helping her mother in the kitchen, in caring for younger siblings and with the needle. This was so important for a girl in 1804 in that new state of Ohio. Life was exciting, but it was also hard. Each person had to do their share.

It was beautiful day in late Spring. Jane was on her way to the neighbors, half a mile away. She had been entrusted with the prized silver sewing needle that three families shared. It was the neighbor's turn to use the needle.

As she was walking through the meadow between them, at the edge of the woods, she was distracted by a doe leading twin fawns into the thicket. She forgot herself for just a brief moment, but it was long enough for her to stumble on a root and lose the sewing needle!

Frantically she began to search, carefully, systematically through the growth of plants at her feet. How could she have been so careless? Three families depended on that needle. Who knew when they could replace it.

Soon, tears came to her eyes as she saw the difficulty of her task. Just then, she realized that someone had joined her in her search. Silently, as was their skill, a Shawnee boy about her age was searching the ground around Jane. Their eyes met, she saw kindness and compassion. Then the boy brightened and held up that silver needle. His eyes were asking her if this was what she had lost. Indeed it was, she flashed back with a nod and grateful smile.

Jane took care to be more careful with things that were entrusted to her, in the future. She had learned a lot that lovely Spring day. She had also gained a friend.

Good morning ,
My mind just sort of bounces and bumbles about . Generally in the AM is when it is free and productive. Stories :anicdotes - The news this week - what is interesting ?- what is funny ?- where do stories come from ? People like to laugh at other people [ not nice , but true ] It seems OK to laugh at evil doers that do stupid things.- How about the Guy that led the cops a merry chase for 20 miles and went stright to the YS police station .
I think that stories happen to everyone everyday, but generally you can't see it untill you think of it from a distance. Oh well ,that is the way my mind works when I first wake up.
Have a good day, Sharon
