I love how you really got this folk school thing going through sheer determination, persistence and of course love of The Folk Arts. Eric

I don't know her Carolion and I haven't seen her work? Do you know if she has her work on a website anywhere?

How well do you know Sue Rudolf? Her multi whatchamacallit integrated embroidery pieces are masterful - and she belongs to the national embroidery guild.

Hey, Carolion, that sounds good. But right now I've got enough projects going on that have deadlines for me not to want to add another obligation at this time. Good luck.

Hi Carolion----

Here's an update on my thoughts regarding a "Day of the Dead" gathering:

Today, I'm going to do some private ceremoney. There's been something I've been working on since last week (or longer?) to do with this being the time leading up to the election---and I can't split my focus right now.

However, I DO want to do a gathering at my house, with the fire pit, make a Sacred offering---a despacho, as well as put specific staffs or prepared sticks into a Spirit Fire that represent those ancestors, etc. that we wish to honor.

I don't know, maybe you've already planned something----but I'm thinking of Monday evening, November 10th. We could make it a potluck dinner/feast as well. Let me know if you, Toni, or Maggie are interested and let's see what we can do!

Happy Celtic New Year!

Congratulations on a successful Folk School event!

I'm sorry I didn't make this one---the client I had on Friday afternoon was very...um...complex. It always seems to come in "waves", difficult transitions that get reflected in the client's who need me---and then it bounces back onto me, a psychic "back splash" if you will. And the past few days, I've felt absolutely hammered by some stuff.

On a happier note---the Kenyon trip was wonderful and Charlie looks good and did a fine job as "Tiger Brown" in Three Penny Opera. See you around!

Carolion -- Nice work! I love the colors and images!
I want to invite you to a reception to celebrate my solo show of all new work at Village Artisans on Friday, Sept. 19, 6-9pm. The work is on diamond-shaped canvases and the show is called "turning corners." Eat , drink & be merry! Hope you can make it. -- Amy

thanks---it was the squeezing 1 and 3 together that I wasn't 'getting'.

Bees are nice. I've been enjoying their visits to my humble lawn and flowerbeds...and the butterflies too. and the moths. oh, and the hummingbirds of course. very nice!

DREAMING OF A MANSION ON BLUE BIRD HILL

Yesterday there was an open house showcasing the refurbished old mansion on E. Hyde Rd. outside of the village of Yellow Springs proper. It's just around the bend from my place, and I've walked that road for years. Ever since the old owner died I've had thoughts about what a great facility that would make for our Heart of Joy Folkschool. A group of us went to the open house and had a great time envisioning how we'd use the mansion and outbuildings and grounds. The current property up for sale is… Continue

Yellow Springs Magazine - Our Village's Answer to the New Yorker, and Then Some!

Today has been one of those great clearing and organizing days (no, my taxes aren't done), and a great day for connecting with other arts people and getting projects lined up.
For about a year now, I've been getting ideas and connecting with other writers around the concept of a village magazine: a publication that celebrates and philosophizes about village life in somewhat the same way the New Yorker celebrates and philosophizes about big city life.

The following is a quote from an email I sen… Continue

THE LITTLE JUGGLER

Once upon a time there was a little juggler who walked from village to village plying his trade. He never made much money, but every so often some kind soul gave him a new tunic to replace his ragged one, or a good cloak to ward off rain and snow and serve as blanket on those ni… Continue

Happiness Is A Warm-Hearted Folkshop!

I've got a lot of bean soup in my freezer, left over from this past weekend's Heart Of Joy Folkschool event - our first living local history folkshop, held out at the O.E.C. in Glen Helen. Friday night's Theatricals, including Kay Reimers' interactive scene from the days of the heated controversy over the coming of the railroad, Robin Jordan Henry's dramatic reading of the escape of the Conway Colony slaves into freedom in Yellow Springs, and Bill and Phillipa Gay's MOCKINGBIRD THEATRE old-time… Continue
